Well, I fished the past few weeks quite a bit in Hawks Channel. The action has been pretty good, with some great catches of mackerel.
Lots of nice big spanish mackerel and kings on 15lb. test. Almost everyday we fished we caught at least one king mackerel over 30 pounds. The snapper bite has been great if you want some eating fish besides mackerel. The last three days I fished Don and his son Greg. It was blowin' pretty good the first two days, but we managed to get in some nice half days. They caught lots of fish to eat and also caught their limit of kings which they had smoked at Porkys restaurant. The third day we went deep dropping for some big amberjacks. We weren't disappointed from the very first drop. The bait hit the bottom, and just as I was telling Greg to sit by the rod it bent over double. He fought a nice AJ for about fifteen minutes and finally got it to the boat. We estimated it to weigh around 55 pounds. We caught some more nice mid range fish, and ended with the biggest one of the day. We estimated it to be around 65 pounds. It gave Don all he wanted and then some. We haven't sailfished much the past few weeks, but I will be fishin' for sails four of the six day I'm fishing in the next week. Well, Until Next Time....Capt. Jeff
