Well, the tarpon have finally started chomping well.

It's been a great week for tarpon, with most trips having at least one doubleheader of fish. The average fish we're releasing is 3 to 4 fish per trip, with sevral others jumping off or busting the baits. The highlight of the past week would have to be last Saturday with my long time friend Adam Leitner. He's been fishing with me for years, and we've become good friends. We started the day tarpon fishing. It was just the two of us, and I dropped a couple of baits out. It took about a minute when a nice 100 pounder inhaled the mullet I was holding. I handed Adam the rod, and as I dropped the anchor ball and started backing up, the other rod got slammed before I could reel it in. We both fought the two big tarpon for a few minutes when luckily mine jumped off. We fought his for about twenty minutes, and then got a nice boatside release. The rest of the morning was just as action packed, as we went 5 for 7 on tarpon. We did a little yellowtailing in the afternoon, and Adam caught some nice flags on a 9 weight flyrod. He used a number 12 shrimp pattern, with 8 lb. flourocarbon. We then ended the day trying for a few more tarpon. We jumped a few off and released one about 7:30 pm. It was just a little after 8:00 when both baits got slammed at the same time. It was interesting releasing the anchor and starting the boat, while fighting a big 'poon the whole time. We ended up landing both fish, and released eight nice tarpon for the day. Other highlights for the week have been some nice mahi mahi offshore, and lots of big flag yellowtail on the reef. So you name it, a little bit of everything is biting. Just pick which way you want to go to catch some nice fish. Well, Until Next Time....Capt. Jeff
